THOMAS W. SHAVER APPOINTED VICE PRESIDENT OF VOLKSWAGEN UNITED STATES, INC. AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced the appointment of Thomas W. Shaver to the position of vice president, Volkswagen United States, Inc. His assignment is effective Sept. 4, 1992. Shaver will be responsible for sales, marketing and executive management of Volkswagen United States. He will report to VWoA President and Chief Executive Officer William J. Young. Shaver, 52, recently served as director of Consumer Marketing for Saturn Corporation where he was responsible for advertising, merchandising, sales promotion, auto show exhibits, and image/product positioning. "I am extremely pleased that Tom has joined our Volkswagen team," said Young. "The success of Saturn is evidence of Tom's abilities and knowledge of the industry." Shaver comes to Volkswagen with more than 29 years of broad automotive experience beginning in 1963, when he joined the Chevrolet Motor Division as a field administrator. During his tenure at Chevrolet, Shaver held such positions as zone manager, manager of special marketing projects and manager of planning and operations for passenger car merchandising. In 1985 he was named director of merchandising for General Motors Corporation. Born in Central City, Ky., Shaver graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor's degree in marketing. He received his master's degree in management from Stanford University.
