THOMAS W. MCCONNELL NAMED PRESIDENT OF NEW ENGLAND SECURITIES CORP.

 BOSTON, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The New England, a Boston-based insurance and investment firm, has announced the appointment of Thomas W. McConnell as president of its broker-dealer subsidiary, New England Securities.
 NES, which offers mutual funds, variable life insurance and variable annuities, investment partnerships, IRAs, and securities brokerage services, had 1992 sales of $1.2 billion and holds assets under management of nearly $5 billion.
 Currently at Alliance Capital Management, New York, McConnell will assume his new position on Aug. 30.
 A graduate of Trinity College with a B.S. in mathematics, McConnell served in the U.S. Air Force before joining Connecticut General Life Insurance Company in Hartford in 1972. He held several positions in CG Equity Sales Company, where he managed the broker-dealer compliance, product selection and distribution functions.
 In 1987 he was promoted to vice president, Individual Financial Services Division and president, CIGNA Securities, responsible for distribution of all proprietary and nonproprietary investment products through Connecticut General/CIGNA's individual agency system. He assumed his current position at Alliance in 1992.
