CHICAGO ATTORNEY SUCCEEDS MCLACHLAN AS BOARD MEMBER OF 2,000-MILE,
 CHICAGO-BASED REGIONAL RAILROAD
 CHICAGO, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Wisconsin Central Transportation


Corporation (NASDAQ: WCLX) said directors in a regular meeting elected Thomas W. Rissman, 34, a director of the company, effective Jan. 23. He succeeds Donald J. McLachlan, who died Jan. 19, and who had been a director since 1987 and the company's chairman since June, 1991.
 The position of chairman will not be filled, the company said. Edward A. Burkhardt continues as the company's president, chief executive officer and a director.
 Rissman was involved with the company's formation in 1987 and has served as legal counsel in virtually all of its financing transactions. He has been a partner in the Chicago law firm of McLachlan, Rissman & Doll since 1987 and, from 1982 to 1987, practiced law with Isham, Lincoln & Beale, Chicago.
 Rissman is a director of Gateway Western Railway Company, Fairview Heights, Ill., and The Oxford Group, Inc., Chicago, a locomotive leasing company. He also serves as president and director of RMM Canadian Enterprises, Inc.
 A native of Chicago, Rissman received an A.B. from Cornell University in 1979 and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1982.
