THOMAS P. MCANDREWS RESIGNS AS PRESIDENT OF MANNINGTON RESILIENT FLOORS
SALEM, N.J., Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomas P. McAndrews, president of Mannington Resilient Floors, will resign effective Feb. 28, 1992, according to Scott Smith, president and chief executive officer, Mannington Mills, Inc.
Smith said much of Mannington's recent success is due to the dynamism and experience that McAndrews has brought to Mannington during the three years he has served as president and chief operating officer.
"Tom has brought major positive changes to Mannington, guiding the company to a leadership position in the North American floor covering market," he said.
"Under his direction, Mannington introduced many new products into the market, including the highly successful Mannington Gold in September 1990. During the recession year of 1991, Mannington achieved record sales, resulting in a substantial earnings improvement over 1990. For the short period of time Tom has been with us, he has left a strong mark on the culture and spirit of Mannington. I will personally miss him very much," Smith said.
McAndrews said the experience of leading one of the most successful product launches in flooring industry history, as well as working with a top-notch team, has been rewarding.
"I know I've said it a hundred times, but I really believe that Mannington and its people are the absolute best in the industry," he said.
"It's been terrifically rewarding to witness the achievements of everyone in the organization, and to recognize that by empowering our own people and giving them the resources they need to succeed, miracles can literally happen."
McAndrews said he will announce his future plans within the next few weeks.
Ernest L. Ransome III, chairman of the board of directors, expressed his confidence in Smith's ability to lead the organization and carry out the aggressive strategies already in place as a result of the Smith/McAndrews partnership.
"I am confident in Scott's talents and ability to continue the momentum that has made Mannington the most innovative company in the floor covering industry today," Ransome said.
"The strong relationships that Scott, Tom and I have built will assure that the transition is a smooth one, and that our mission of innovation and customer satisfaction is carried on with the same intensity as before."
Smith said Mannington will also announce some major organizational and business changes next week at the Surfaces trade show in Las Vegas, which he said will further strengthen the company and secure its leadership position in the industry.
Mannington Mills, Inc. is one of the largest floor covering manufacturers in the country, with more than 2,500 employees in the United States and Canada. The company is the only flooring manufacturer that sells ceramic tile, carpet, wood and resilient floors. Recently, Mannington expanded its commercial division by teaming up with a Japanese conglomerate, Takiron Co., LTD., to license their technology in the United States and generate American jobs right here at home.
