 THOMAS ELECTED CEO OF MICHAEL BAKER CORPORATION
 BEAVER, Pa., April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- William G. Thomas was


elected chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors of Michael Baker Corporation (AMEX: BKR) at the company's annual meeting today.
 Thomas succeeds Richard L. Shaw, who is retiring May 1, but will remain active as chairman of the board.
 Thomas, 56, joined Baker in 1986 as a senior vice president to initiate the company's entry into the operations and maintenance services business. He was elected executive vice president in 1990 with additional responsibility for Baker's environmental, and facilities planning and design units. In 1991 he was elected president and chief operating officer. He remains president.
 Under Thomas' direction, Baker acquired two operations and maintenance companies, Intelcom Support Services, Inc. (1986) and MO Services, Inc. (1990). Baker's Operations and Maintenance Group provides a variety of services to companies in the oil and gas, petrochemical, and utility industries, and to the federal government. In 1991 the group accounted for 37 percent of Baker's total contract revenues and 58 percent of income from operations.
 Prior to joining Baker, Thomas was president of Elwin G. Smith Construction Products, Inc., a subsidiary of Cyclops Corporation. He has a B.S. in engineering from Lehigh University and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University. He and his wife are residents of Bradfordwoods, Pa., a suburb of Pittsburgh.
