THOMAS D. JONES ELECTED VICE PRESIDENT AND TREASURER OF UNION CARBIDE

 DANBURY, Conn., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Union Carbide Corporation (NYSE: UK) today announced that Thomas D. Jones has been elected vice president and treasurer of the corporation by Carbide's Board of Directors.
 Mr. Jones joined Carbide in 1958 as an accounting trainee. Following several assignments for overseas business groups, he became assistant treasurer and manager of Carbide's Domestic Banking and Finance Department in 1976, and assistant treasurer of finance and banking in 1986.
 Later that year he was named assistant treasurer of corporate finance and became associate treasurer of corporate finance last March.
 Mr. Jones is a CPA and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Financial Executives Institute. He's a Harvard alumnus with an MBA in finance and banking from the Wharton Graduate Division of the University of Pennsylvania.
 Mr. Jones and his wife, the former Carol Ann Kirtley, live in Westport, Conn. They have two daughters, Mary Beth Celona and Susan Lee, and two sons, William Michael and Thomas D., Jr.
