THOMAS B. WHEELER ELECTED TO TEXTRON BOARD

 PROVIDENCE, R.I., May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Thomas B. Wheeler, 56, president and chief executive officer of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, has been elected a director of Textron, (NYSE: TXT) James F. Hardymon, Textron's chairman, president and chief executive officer announced today.
 Wheeler began his career in computer sales with IBM. He joined MassMutual in 1962 as an insurance agent and was named General Agent of the Boston agency in 1973, serving a total of 21 years on the company's field force. He was named executive vice president of the insurance and financial line in 1983, president and chief operating officer in 1987 and president and chief executive officer in 1988.
 With $53 billion in assets under management, MassMutual, headquartered in Springfield, Mass., is the nation's 12th largest life insurance company. Founded in 1851, the company is a leading provider of individual life insurance products, employee life, health and pension benefits and investment services.
 A graduate of Yale University, Wheeler is a director of the Life and Health Insurance Medical Research Fund Board, chairman of the Massachusetts Business Roundtable, a director of the Bank of Boston, chairman of Concert Capital Management, Inc., a trustee of Springfield College and the Basketball Hall of Fame.
 Textron is a multi-industry company with operations focused in three business sectors -- aerospace technology, commercial products and financial services.
