 PASSIVE MICROWAVE CAMERA DEVELOPMENT
 SAN DIEGO, Calif., Aug. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- ThermoTrex Corporation (AMEX: TKN) has received a $2.3 million contract (with an additional $1.1 million option) from the U.S. Army Harry Diamond Laboratories to continue development of ThermoTrexUs passive microwave camera, which is designed to help pilots navigate safely in adverse weather conditions.
 The passive microwave camera is a "synthetic vision" system that uses ambient microwaves to form images of objects obscured by clouds or fog. The goal of this project is to provide a demonstration unit that can eventually be used on Army helicopters. The one-year contract contains a $1.1 million option, exercisable upon completion of phase one.
 "This contract will significantly accelerate development of the passive microwave camera," said Firooz Rufeh, president and chief executive officer of ThermoTrex Corporation. "Our technology has the potential to benefit not only military pilots but commercial pilots and all those who travel by plane."
 ThermoTrex Corporation develops advanced technology in electro-optic and electro-acoustic systems, signal processing, materials technology, lasers, and thermionic and thermoelectric direct-energy conversion. Currently, the company is developing several commercial products, including a sonic CT (computerized tomography) system for real-time imaging of soft tissue and internal organs, a wind-shear detector that would provide pilots with advance warning of wind shear, and the passive microwave camera.
