THERMOTREX RECEIVES $1 MILLION CONTRACT TO DEVELOP MILLIMETER-WAVE AMPLIFIER SOURCE

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- ThermoTrex Corporation (AMEX: TKN) has received a one-year, $1 million contract (with a $1.5 million option) to develop a new millimeter-wave amplifier source based on its electron-beam-activated diamond switch technology. The contract is funded by the Innovative Science and Technology Directorate of the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization (SDIO) and was awarded through the U.S. Army Research Laboratory at Fort Monmouth, N.J., which will manage this effort and provide technical guidance.
Potential applications include power generation for advanced radar and various military applications. Under a previous SDIO contract, ThermoTrex (TTC) demonstrated that its millimeter-wave diamond amplifier source could generate frequencies in the 35-gigahertz range. This contract will support TTC's effort to develop a higher-power module in a smaller package than can be achieved with current technologies.
ThermoTrex Corporation develops advanced technology in electro-optic and electro-acoustic systems, signal processing, materials technology, lasers, and thermionic and thermoelectric direct-energy conversion. The company also manufactures and markets imaging systems for early detection of breast cancer. In addition, ThermoTrex is developing other commercial products for the medical imaging and avionics industries. ThermoTrex Corporation is a public subsidiary of Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE: TMO).
