 THERMO INSTRUMENT SYSTEMS REPORTS RECORD QUARTERLY RESULTS
 WALTHAM, Mass., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Thermo Instrument Systems Inc. (AMEX: THI) today reported that net income increased by 32 percent to a record $8.6 million, or $.30 per share, on revenues of $112.3 million for the third quarter ended Sept. 26, 1992, compared with net income of $6.5 million, or $.24 per share, on revenues of $82.8 million for 1991.
 For the nine-month period ended September 26, Thermo Instrument reported net income of $23.8 million, or $.83 per share, on revenues of $285.7 million, all records, compared with net income of $17.8 million, or $.67 per share, on revenues of $250.9 million for the first nine months of 1991.
 "We are pleased to report that our net income and earnings per share continued to grow at a vigorous rate," said Arvin H. Smith, president and chief executive officer of Thermo Instrument Systems. "Our substantial revenue growth in the third quarter includes five weeks' results from Nicolet Instrument Corporation, which complements and expands our analytical instrument product lines."
 Thermo Instrument successfully completed a tender offer for Nicolet's common stock in August, and Nicolet is expected to become a wholly owned subsidiary of the company by year-end.
 Thermo Instrument Systems develops, manufactures, and markets analytical instruments used to detect and monitor air pollution, radioactivity, complex chemical compounds, and toxic metals and other elements in a broad range of liquids and solids. The company also provides environmental science and engineering services, laboratory- based testing, and nuclear health physics services. Thermo Instrument Systems is a public subsidiary of Thermo Electron Corporation.
