THERMO INSTRUMENT RECEIVES $1.6 MILLION IN ORDERS
FROM CHINA FOR ADVANCED MASS SPECTROMETERS
WALTHAM, Mass., Feb. /PRNewswire/ -- Thermo Instrument Systems Inc. (AMEX: THI) announced today that its Finnigan MAT subsidiary has been awarded contracts from China totaling approximately $1.6 million to provide mass spectrometers for use in geological research.
The subsidiary will provide agencies of the Chinese government with four isotope ratio mass spectrometers for use in fossil fuel exploration, energy development, and glacial studies in China, primarily at research laboratories in Lanzhou.
"We are especially pleased that the order represents repeat business from the Lanzhou Geology Research Institute, which previously purchased Finnigan MAT instruments including our Ion Trap Detector, for petroleum research," said Philip L. Warren, manager of Finnigan MAT's operations in Asia. "The Institute noted that our instruments' technical superiority and strong customer support influenced their decision to award the contracts."
The mass spectrometers will be manufactured at the company's facility in Bremen, Germany. Shipment of the order is expected to be completed during the third quarter of 1992.
Thermo Instrument Systems develops, manufactures, and markets analytical instruments used to detect and monitor air pollution, radioactivity, complex chemical compounds, and toxic metals and other elements in a broad range of liquids and solids. The company also provides environmental science and engineering services, laboratory- based testing, and nuclear health physics services.
