THERMO INSTRUMENT AWARDED $2.6 MILLION IN CONTRACTS
 TO CONDUCT TESTING FOR EPA
WALTHAM, Mass., April 8 /PRnewswire/ -- Thermo Instrument Systems Inc. (ASE-THI) today announced that an environmental services subsidiary, Thermo Analytical, has been awarded contracts valued at up to $2.6 million from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to analyze hazardous waste samples in the federal Contract Laboratory Program.
Under the two-year contracts, samples from Superfund hazardous waste sites throughout the country will be analyzed by the subsidiary's Waltham, Mass.-based laboratory for the presence of toxic metals and other inorganic contaminants. The number of samples submitted for analysis is determined by EPA needs.
We believe that our organization's EPA contracts represent more than 25 percent of the total inorganics testing capacity in the Contract Laboratory Program, and we are pleased to remain among the nation's leading suppliers of such services to the agency, said Dr. John P. Appleton, president of Thermo Analytical. The subsidiary comprises a nationwide network of analytical laboratories and firms that offer environmental science consulting and contracting services to public- and private-sector clients.
Thermo Instrument Systems develops, manufactures, and markets analytical instruments used to detect and monitor air pollution, radioactivity, complex chemical compounds, and toxic metals and other elements in a broad range of liquids and solids. The company also provides environmental science and engineering services, laboratory-based testing, and nuclear health physics services.
