THERMO ELECTRON CONSIDERS CONSOLIDATING THREE OPERATIONS TO PURSUE
MARKETS FOR NATURAL-GAS ENGINES AND OTHER POWER PRODUCTS
WALTHAM, Mass., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE-TMO) announced today that it is considering the consolidation of three of its operations: Tecogen Inc., Crusader Marine Engines, and Peter Brotherhood Ltd. The consolidation would result in an international power-products company with annual revenues of approximately $70 million. The combined technologies and manufacturing capabilities would accelerate entry into the fast-growing market for low-emission vehicle engines fueled by natural gas.
Marshall J. Armstrong, vice president of Thermo Electron, said, the consolidation of these companies, which would blend R&D expertise with worldwide production and service, could position us well to serve the market for natural gas-powered engines for vehicles and other applications requiring reduced emissions.
The three companies are part of Thermo Electron's Power Group, which manufactures and markets a variety of industrial products including natural gas-fueled cogeneration units, cooling systems, and vehicle engines; marine engines; and team turbines and gas compressors. Tecogen Inc. is a public subsidiary (AMEX: TGN) which is 80 percent-owned by Thermo Electron, Peter Brotherhood Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary, and Crusader Marine Engine is a division of Thermo Electron.
Thermo Electron develops, manufactures, and markets environmental and analytical instruments, custom-engineered and pre-packaged cogeneration systems, industrial process equipment, biomedical materials and products, and fabricated biomedical and aerospace components. The company also provides metallurgical heat treating, water quality engineering, and analytical laboratory services.
