THERMEDICS SUBSIDIARY LAUNCHES NEW ENTERAL FEEDING PRODUCT

THERMEDICS SUBSIDIARY LAUNCHES NEW ENTERAL FEEDING PRODUCT
WOBURN, Mass., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Corpak Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Thermedics Inc. (AMEX: TMD), has introduced Polar Pak(tm), a new closed system for enteral feeding applications. In a closed enteral feeding system, the nutritional formula is administered directly from the container to patients who are unable to intake or digest food in a normal fashion. Many feeding systems require that the formula be transferred from its original container to the administration container Q an extra step that can lead to contamination of the feeding formula.
Corpak's new system utilizes clear plastic pouches that offer several advantages over conventional metal cans and plastic bottles: they require less storage space and they result in significantly lower shipping and disposal costs. In addition, the plastic pouches are recyclable. The formula is sterilized during the filling process and no post-filling sterilization is required.
"Medical professionals who have worked with Polar Pak report that it is very easy to access," said Tom Kuhn, president of Corpak. "It was important for us to develop a product that could be set up and accessed very quickly while minimizing the risk of the system leaking."
Corpak manufactures enteral nutrition therapy systems that introduce special solutions to the stomach or small intestine of patients who are unable to ingest food normally. The company also provides assembly, sterilization, and packaging services.
Thermedics develops, manufactures, and markets biomaterials, biomedical products, analytical instruments, and explosives- and drug- detection devices, and provides analytical laboratory services. Thermedics is a public subsidiary of Thermo Electron Corporation.
