 THERMEDICS SUBSIDIARY FILES FOR PUBLIC OFFERING OF COMMON STOCK
 WOBURN, Mass., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Thermedics Inc. (AMEX: TMD) announced today that its subsidiary, Thermo Cardiosystems Inc. (AMEX: TCA), has filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission a registration statement for a public offering of 1.5 million shares of its common stock consisting of 1.2 million shares to be sold by Thermo Cardiosystems and 300,000 to be sold by a shareholder. Lehman Brothers; Kidder, Peabody & Co.; and County NatWest Securities Limited will co-manage the offering. Following the offering and upon conversion of certain subordinated convertible notes held by Thermedics, Thermedics will own approximately 50 percent of Thermo Cardiosystems common stock.
 Thermo Cardiosystems Inc. engages in research and development of implantable ventricular-assist devices. These devices are designed to perform substantially all or part of the pumping function of the left ventricle of the natural heart for patients suffering from cardiovascular disease. The company's devices are currently for investigational use only. Thermo Cardiosystems is a public subsidiary of Thermedics Inc. and Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE: TMO).
 Thermedics develops, manufactures, and markets biomaterials, biomedical products, analytical instruments, and explosives- and drug-detection devices, and provides analytical laboratory services. Thermedics is a public subsidiary of Thermo Electron Corporation.
