THE ZWEIG FUND, INC. AUTHORIZES DECLARATION OF A DISTRIBUTION

 NEW YORK, Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Zweig Fund, Inc. (NYSE: ZF; PSE) announced that its board of directors declared a distribution payable on January 10, 1994 to stockholders of record on December 31, 1993.
 The Zweig Fund intends to distribute the greater of 2.5% of its net asset value on December 10, 1993 (the day prior to declaration) or all available net investment income and net short and long term capital gains, in order to continue its qualification as a Regulated Investment Company and to avoid the Excise Tax under the Internal Revenue Code. The amount of distribution will be announced on January 3, 1994.
 The Zweig Fund is a closed-end fund with an investment objective to increase capital primarily through investment in equity securities. The Fund also seeks to preserve capital through the use of certain hedging and market timing techniques that are designed to eliminate unnecessary risk.
