THE WORD 'DIET' TAKES ON NEW MEANING

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Diet Center, Inc. has introduced a new program that focuses on measuring behavior, instead of weight, the company has announced.
The behavior-management program, called Exclusively Me(TM) has been designed to support the company's individualized weight-management program. Moving beyond the traditional approach, Exclusively Me actively involves people in designing personal solutions to losing and maintaining their weight.
"Research shows that people stick to new behaviors that conform to their values and lifestyle. With this program, the client -- not some authority figure -- defines the boundaries for change," says Ida Laquatra, Ph.D., R.D., vice president of scientific affairs and training at Diet Center, Inc. Dr. Laquatra created Exclusively Me.
The program also helps develop skills -- such as preparing for high-risk situations and setting goals -- to more effectively apply new information.
"People are too quick to dismiss skills as character traits. But these skills can be learned and Exclusively Me gets down to the nuts and bolts of learning them," says Dr. Laquatra. Unique features of the program include separating food from morality; disassociating weight from self-esteem; and detaching behaviors from judgments of self.
Exclusively Me includes an activity book, filled with tools and tips, and audiotapes. Diet Center counselors guide their clients through completion of the behavior-management program.
Diet Center businesses throughout the United States, Canada, Guam and Bermuda offer Exclusively Me. To locate a Diet Center business in your area, call 1-800-333-2581.
Diet Center, Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, is one of the largest franchisors of commercial weight-management businesses in North America.
