THE WESTIN MISSION HILLS RESORT RECEIVES MOBIL TRAVEL GUIDE FOUR-STAR AWARD FOR 1993

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The Westin Mission Hills Resort -- a 512-room resort situated on 360 acres and showcasing two championship golf courses designed by Gary Player and Pete Dye, has been awarded the coveted Four Stars distinction by the Mobil Travel Guide for 1993. The Four-Star Award signifies to potential travelers that a particular destination is outstanding and well worth a special trip. This award is especially noteworthy to have been received so soon after the conclusion of the resort's first full year after opening in 1991.
The Four-Star Award recipients represent the top 2 percent of the more than 21,000 establishments rated in the 1993 Mobil Travel Guide. Only 361 dining and lodging properties merit Four Stars this year.
"The Westin Mission Hills Resort could not have won Four Stars without the commitment to quality demonstrated by our excellent staff," said Larry Scheerer, general manager of The Westin Mission Hills Resort. "The staff's dedication to our guests' comfort and satisfaction is reflected in the 1993 Four-Star Award."
Located in the playground of presidents and stars, The Westin Mission Hills Resort features championship golf, seven regulation tennis courts, a children's activity center, three swimming pools, a 60-foot water slide sculpted to represent a canyon setting, volleyball and croquet courts and a fully equipped health club. Two specialty restaurants, four light menu cafes, a poolside cocktail lounge and lobby lounge with terrace offer dining and entertainment.
Classic-Moroccan in design, the resort complements the natural desert environment. The entire complex is immersed in a garden oasis of lush vegetation and waterways. Most guest rooms offer panoramic views of golf waterways.
"The Mobil Travel Guide's Four-Star Award recognizes The Westin Mission Hills Resort's constant efforts to provide an outstanding' lodging experience for every visitor," says Ruth Walker, Mobil Travel Guide manager.
Each year, more than 130 field representatives visit thousands of lodgings and restaurants. Their reports, combined with letters from guests and visits by senior evaluators, contribute to the final ratings. The ratings are updated annually and no rating is automatic -- properties can and do gain or lose stars.
Four-Star criteria include distinctive architectural design, gracious hospitality, impeccable furnishings and decor and immaculate housekeeping. A superior staff is essential to providing each guest a memorable visit.
Westin Hotels & Resorts consists of 76 luxury hotels and resorts in 15 countries around the world.
