THE WESTIN BONAVENTURE'S 'TAKE CARE SUMMER' HELPS PUT A CHECK ON POVERTY AND HUNGER

LOS ANGELES, June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Vacationers and business travelers who take advantage of The Westin Bonaventure's $99 "Take CARE Summer" rate will also be helping to improve the lives of the world's neediest people. From June 1 through Labor Day, all Westin Hotels & Resorts will donate a percentage of the revenues from guest visits in the United States and Canada to CARE, the world's largest private relief and development organization.
As a thank you to guests, The Westin Bonaventure will offer a special summer rate of $99 in addition to giving "CARE Packages" of coupons worth more than $500 in discounts with Northwest Airlines, Starbucks Coffee Co., Westin Hotels & Resorts and local restaurants and attractions. The CARE Package, perhaps the most famous symbol of American generosity worldwide, was developed by CARE to help the needy, beginning with World War II victims in Europe in 1946.
"It's not often people can pamper themselves and help others at the same time," says Michele Alexander, director of CARE's Corporate Council. "A night at one of Westin's luxurious hotels would appeal to anyone, but to be able to contribute in a lasting way and benefit those who are less fortunate makes a stay at Westin even more meaningful. Westin's unique spirit of corporate generosity is evident in its partnership with CARE.
"Westin has designated the Wawawasi ("children's houses") Project in rural Peru as the cause it will support throughout this three- month program," said Jim Treadway, president of Westin Hotels & Resorts, North America. "This project aims at improving the nutritional status of 17,500 children under six years of age by providing supplementary food, establishing Food Reserve Funds and training parents in nutrition, agriculture and community organization."
The Westin Bonaventure is one of Westin's 44 hotels in the United States and Canada. From The Plaza in New York City to the historic Westin St. Francis in San Francisco, each hotel has a distinct flair and the Westin standard of excellence.
