THE WEST COMPANY ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT

 PHOENIXVILLE, Pa., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- William G. Little, president and chief executive officer of The West Company, Incorporated (NYSE: WST) today announced the promotion of Jerry E. Dorsey to the newly formed position of group president.
 In that capacity, Dorsey will have responsibility for all of the company's worldwide operating divisions.
 Dorsey joined The West Company in 1992 as president of the Health Care Division. Previously, he had been president of Foster Medical Company. Prior to that he served for 18 years in a variety of management positions with Johnson and Johnson.
 In announcing this promotion, Little stated, "The West Company has been restructuring to meet the needs of the emerging global economy. The nature of the markets we serve underscores the absolute importance of being able to become partners with our customers on a worldwide basis. The promotion of Mr. Dorsey and related changes in management responsibilities emphasizes that commitment."
 The West Company is a premier supplier of products that satisfy the unique filling, sealing and dispensing needs of the health care and consumer products industries. More than 85 percent of West's revenue is generated by the health care markets. Products include stoppers, closures, containers, medical device components and assemblies made from elastomers, metal, plastic and glass. West also manufactures related packaging machinery.
