THE VOLUNTARY BUTLER SCHEME Breakfast, Dinner, Tea (Split) w

DESCRIBED in the press release as a mix of Badly Drawn Boy and Brian Wilson, this is half-right. The comparisons with Damon Gough are applicable, but other than the 1960s-style tunes, it's hard to see where the ex-Beach Boy member fits in. This is an uptempo, breezy indie-pop offering by Stourbridge's own Rob Jones, best known for his role in The Wonder Stuff. He would be exciting to see live, but on the album it's all a bit too gimmicky. Saying that, Until My Watch Runs Out Of Battery is a good singalong tune, as is Night Driver. JD
