THE STUDENT LOAN CORPORATION NAMES TWO NEW DIRECTORS

 PITTSFORD, N.Y., April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Student Loan corporation (NYSE: STU) announced today that Christopher F. Edley and Evelyn E. Handler were elected to its board of directors. Each was elected to serve as director for a two-year term, expiring at the annual meeting in 1995.
 Mr. Edley was president and chief executive officer of the United Negro College Fund, Inc. (UNCF) from 1973 until 1990, and now holds the title of president emeritus. Prior to joining the UNCF, Mr. Edley was at the Ford Foundation, where he was responsible for all grant activities to improve federal and state government, including higher education, legal education both domestically and internationally, and the administration of justice. Mr. Edley currently serves on the boards of AMR Corporation and The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea company, and has been a member of each for over ten years.
 Dr. Handler is an associate in education at Harvard University. From 1990 until 1992, she was a senior fellow of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Dr. Handler served as president of Brandeis University form 1983 to 1991 and president of the University of New Hampshire from 1980 to 1983. Prior to that, she was dean of sciences and mathematics at Hunter College CUNY. In addition, Dr. Handler has served on a number of committees addressing issues of higher education. Dr. Handler is currently on the board of The New England Mutual Life Insurance Company.
