THE ST. PAUL COMPANIES UPDATES LOSS ESTIMATES FOR THIRD-QUARTER STORMS
ST. PAUL, Minn., Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Insured losses resulting from four catastrophes during the third quarter of 1992 Hurricane Andrew, Hurricane Iniki, Typhoon Omar and severe storms in France will be approximately $170 million pretax, The St. Paul Companies (NYSE: SPC) announced today. The estimate takes into account the losses of all St. Paul operations, including reinsurance.
Included in the total is an estimate of $155 million for Hurricane Andrew, revised upward from an estimate of $100 - $125 million, announced Aug. 27. The revision reflects a refinement of claims estimates.
Combined losses from Typhoon Omar, which hit Guam in early September; Hurricane Iniki, which hit the Hawaiian Islands Sept. 11; and the late-September French storms will total an estimated $15 million pretax, including reinsurance.
