THE SOFTWARE TOOLWORKS AND LUCASFILM GAMES ANNOUNCE
 CD-ROM STRATEGIC MARKETING ALLIANCE
NOVATO, Calif., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Software Toolworks Inc. and Lucasfilm Games(TM) today announced an agreement whereby The Software Toolworks will distribute specific CD-ROM entertainment products created by Lucasfilm Games.
"This agreement marks a new and close relationship between two successful companies in the entertainment software industry," said Bob Goldberg, executive vice president and general manager of The Software Toolworks. "When two industry leaders combine forces, there's bound to be a significant impact on the gaming market."
Doug Glen, general manager of Lucasfilm Games, agrees. "Consumers come out winners, too, because The Software Toolworks gives them widespread access to LucasArts' innovative CD-ROM games."
Lucasfilm Games is an emerging leader in the development of interactive CD-ROM entertainment. With its movie heritage and PC game experience, the company is well-positioned to create intensely cinematic games with graphical special effects and outstanding sound. With the impending boom in CD-ROM, this exciting new form of entertainment will enjoy a mass market audience.
The agreement is the third such relationship The Software Toolworks has forged with entertainment software leaders. First, on Dec. 30, the company announced an agreement with Sega of America(R) to develop software for the 16-bit Genesis System.
In mid-January, The Software Toolworks made a joint announcement with Nintendo of America(R) allowing Toolworks to develop edutainment software for the 8-bit Nintendo (NES(R)) and the 16-bit Super NES(R) as well as for the PC market. All new products under this agreement will be based on the classic Nintendo characters, The Mario Bros.
"Toolworks has built an outstanding CD-ROM distribution organization," said Glen. "We're confident The Software Toolworks will do an excellent job both in retail and OEM markets." Details of The Software Toolworks/Lucasfilm Games Agreement Announced
The joint marketing agreement provides The Software Toolworks with exclusive retail and OEM distribution rights in North America for three Lucasfilm Games products: the Loom(TM) "talkie", The Secret of Monkey Island(TM), and Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe(TM) family, including the original game and four Tour of Duty disks. The Software Toolworks also gains non-exclusive OEM distribution rights for these products, and for foreign language versions, for the remainder of the world market.
The three Lucasfilm Games titles that will be available on CD-ROM from The Software Toolworks were selected based on their popularity in the PC market and the features they gain -- such as speech, enhanced sound, and greater data storage -- in the CD-ROM format. Three Hit Games
Lucasfilm Games will release its award-winning fantasy adventure Loom(TM) on CD-ROM for MS-DOS in March, 1992. The full-voice version features new art, animation, and 256 color graphics. Players progress through the game by using icons and music instead of text commands and menus. Set in the age of great guilds, Loom's hero Bobbin Threadbare plays the pivotal role in a classic conflict between good and evil.
The Secret of Monkey Island, currently available for PC users, will be released on CD-ROM in April 1992. This adventure is set in the golden age of piracy in the Caribbean and features cinematic storytelling in brilliantly colored graphics and an icon inventory. Hilarity is the watch word of Monkey Island as the puns are sharper than the swords.
The Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe(TM) family includes the original program and four Tour of Duty disks featuring the P-38, P-80, He 162, and Do 335. Currently available for PC users, it will be converted to the CD-ROM format by The Software Toolworks and offered in April 1992. The game is the most advanced World War II air combat simulation software available for IBM PC users. It recreates the campaign by the U.S. Eighth Air Force to cripple the industrial might of Germany from 1943 to 1945. Players fly American planes and high- tech German aircraft, some of which were years ahead of their time.
Suggested retail prices have not been announced. For more product information, call The Software Toolworks at 800-234-3088.
