THE SECRET TO PROTECTING YOUNG TREES FROM MOWERS AND TRIMMERS

THE SECRET TO PROTECTING YOUNG TREES FROM MOWERS AND TRIMMERS
WACO, TEXAS, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Damage to the bark of young trees, caused by string trimmers and lawn mowers, is the number one cause of young tree death.
"That's a fact most gardeners will not find surprising. Young trees don't have a thick enough bark to sufficiently protect them, so any gashes and cuts leave the tree vulnerable to deadly diseases and insects," comments Boyd Thomas, director of marketing development for Easy Gardener, Inc., and the creator of BarkGard, the company's newest product.
"BarkGard, which installs easily by coiling it around the tree, is a durable physical barrier between the growing tree and trimmers and mowers. The product," explains Thomas, "has been extremely well received in test marketing and we expect it to be just as popular with consumers now that it's been introduced nationally."
A special manufacturing process ensures that BarkGard will remain in place and expand as the tree grows. Each guard will fit a tree up to four inches in diameter, and two or more guards can be used to protect the trunk of larger trees.
The guard's UV-treated natural brown color blends in well with the tree bark while reflecting heat away from the trunk. Specially designed holes in the material allow the tree to "breathe," while preventing trimmer strings from reaching the trunk.
Easy Gardener's new BarkGard is now available at garden supply retailers, hardware stores and chains nationwide and comes in packages of two which sell for approximately $5.99. The company also manufactures the landscape fabric WeedBlock and the CloudCover line of antitransparent sprays.
