THE SEAGRAM SPIRITS AND WINE GROUP APPOINTS KEVIN SMITH VICE PRESIDENT/GENERAL MANAGER FOR CANADA

 NEW YORK, March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Seagram Spirits And Wine Group today announced the appointment of Kevin Smith as senior vice president/general manager for Canada. Mr. Smith will report directly to Steven Kalagher, president, The House of Seagram and will be based in Montreal.
 Mr. Smith will replace George McCarthy, who has decided to accept a new position as president of North America for Hiram Walker, the spirits and wine sector of Allied-Lyons PLC. "We are grateful to George for his valuable contributions over the past seven years and wish him every success in his new endeavors," said Edward F. McDonnell, president, The Seagram Spirits And Wine Group.
 Mr. Smith brings more than 25 years of experience with Seagram to his new position, most recently serving as vice president, regional manager of the central region for The House of Seagram. "With a wealth of experience in Seagram's U.S. spirits operation, we now look to Kevin to provide us with a fresh new perspective in Canada," stated Mr. McDonnell. "His talents will be extremely beneficial to us as we seek to implement new strategies that will continue our success in this challenging market," he added.
 The House of Seagram, a division of The Seagram Spirits And Wine Group based in New York, is responsible for the production and marketing of Seagram's U.S. distilled spirits brands within the United States. It also imports and markets Seagram brands produced outside of the United States and select premium brands of other companies. The division's brands include Seagram's 7 Crown Blended Whiskey, Chivas Regal and The Glenlivet Scotch Whiskies, Crown Royal and Seagram's V.O.
