THE NEW YORK TIMES REACHES AGREEMENT WITH PLATEMAKERS
NEW YORK, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York Times announced today

it reached a tentative agreement with the New York Stereotypers' Union No. 1, whose members prepare the metal plates used in the production of the newspaper. The agreement is subject to ratification by the union membership.
The agreement, which is similar to those already reached with the Drivers' Union (the Newspaper Mail and Deliverers Union) and the Mailers' Union No. 6, covers the facilities in Manhattan and Edison, N.J.
The Times has been seeking agreements with all of its production unions in connection with the opening of its new state-of-the-art color printing and distribution facility in Edison which began operations in late September.
As the company announced earlier this month, an additional charge of approximately $25 million ($.18 per share) to cover severance and related costs is expected if agreements with the other four production unions, including the Stereotypers' Union, are ratified.
Details of the agreement were not released.
