THE NEW YORK TIMES MAGAZINE, CHILD TO LAUNCH FAMILY TRAVEL' MAGAZINE,
A CROSS-MARKETING FIRST FOR THE COMPANY
NEW YORK, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York Times Magazine and Child Magazine today announced plans to publish "Family Travel," a colorful annual how-to magazine about traveling with children, the first publication to be jointly created and marketed by The New York Times Magazine and the Women's Publishing Division of the company's Magazine Group.
Family Travel will be published as an all-advertising pullout section in The New York Times Magazine for April 12, 1992 and an insert in the May 1992 issue of Child. It will be edited by travel writer Dorothy Jordon, the publisher of Family Travel Times newsletter and co- author of the book, Great Vacations With Your Kids.
Family Travel will be distributed in the 1.1 million copies of The Times sold in the greater New York area and in Child's 525,000 copies nationwide, for a total circulation of 1.6 million copies. This combination will give Family Travel a unique access to high demographic households with children, the prime target for the travel industry's fast-growing family segment. The median household income for Family Travel will be $50,354 and the median age, 35.
Family Travel, designed for readers to keep as a year-round resource, will contain a wide variety of service-oriented information. Topics will include family trip planning, transportation and lodging options, an inside look at the best resorts, active outdoor vacations, weekend getaways, theme parks, sailing, and health and safety.
The open general rate for a full page is $44,910, color, and $30,790, black and white. Contract rates for The New York Times Magazine apply. The deadline is Jan. 17, 1992 for reservations and Jan. 24, 1992 for materials. The special magazine will be supported by a variety of merchandising programs including referral ads in The New York Times Magazine and Child and on WQXR radio, a reader response mechanism in the magazines and added distribution of the section at strategic locations.
Jordan, the editor of Family Travel, is founder and managing director of Travel With Your Children, a national resource center for parents and travel agents dedicated to planning family vacations.
