THE NEW YORK TIMES ANNOUNCES A NEW SECTION ON COPING IN NEW YORK CITY

NEW YORK, Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The New York Times today announced the creation of a weekly section designed for readers and advertisers in New York City and its neighborhoods. The broadsheet section, called "The City," will appear each Sunday beginning Sept. 12.
The City will help readers to better navigate life in New York City. Its mix of features will range from how-to columns to neighborhood news reports and in-depth examinations of broader quality of life issues.
"The new section is another example of our commitment to this city, our readers who call New York home and advertisers who wish to reach them. Our readers and advertisers in New Jersey, Long Island, Westchester and Connecticut have long had the benefit of Times weeklies designed specifically for them. With The City we will complete our coverage of the New York market," said Arthur Sulzberger Jr., publisher of The Times.
Besides news features, The City will offer regular reports from the field on restaurants, shopping and small businesses, along with profiles of people who really make the city work. There will also be a calendar of events and a local movie clock. In addition, the section will have its own opinion page, a sounding board for the residents of New York City's neighborhoods.
The new section will be written by The Times's journalistic staff, which has won more awards for excellence than any other newspaper. John Montorio, the Style editor of The Times, is serving as the start-up editor of the section, with Paul Fishleder, assistant metropolitan editor, at his side.
The City's distribution will include Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. Staten Island will continue to get the New Jersey Weekly.
