THE NATIONAL ELECTRONIC INFORMATION CORPORATION SETS HIGHEST CLAIM VOLUME IN HISTORY DURING EDI IN HEALTHCARE WEEK

SECAUCUS, N.J., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Electronic Information Corporation (NEIC) today reached the highest daily claim volume in its history; 156,144 claims, setting a company record, reports NEIC President and CEO Kenneth J. O'Donnell.
"This milestone coincides with EDI in Healthcare Week, a national public awareness campaign focusing on the importance of electronic data interchange (EDI) in reducing the nation's administrative costs of health care," said O'Donnell, who announced the record before more than 500 industry leaders at the 11th annual Electronic Healthcare Transactions Conference in Scottsdale, Ariz. "Conference attendees from virtually every segment of the healthcare system nationwide agree that EDI is the' fastest route to lowering administrative costs and eliminating paperwork hassles."
NEIC's previous record for commercial electronic healthcare claim volume in a single 24-hour period was 101,718 set on June 9, 1992. "This substantial increase of nearly 55,000 commercial claims for a single day sent electronically to payors illustrates the continued growth and commitment to EDI," says O'Donnell.
O'Donnell continued, "We expect this trend toward EDI in health care to escalate since the President's Task Force on National Health Reform is also committed to implementing immediate solutions to simplify the healthcare process and lower costs."
NEIC is the nation's largest EDI healthcare transactions network with more than 120,000 healthcare providers currently submitting claims and other associated transactions through NEIC and its network of 500 vendors to member payors including managed healthcare entities. Taken together, these payors provide healthcare coverage for over 95 million Americans.
