THE MOST FLEXIBLE AIRLINE AFFINITY CARD IS HERE

Chase Manhattan Bank and British Airways Join Forces
To Offer the Most Consumer-Friendly Travel Credit Card on the Market
NEW YORK, June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Chase Manhattan Bank (USA) (NYSE: CMB) and British Airways (NYSE: BAB) have decided to pool their strengths and issue a new credit card tailored to the special needs of customers who travel both domestically and internationally.
Officials from both companies said that the new Chase/British Airways VISA credit card was a "perfect global fit" because of shared strategic corporate objectives which focus on product quality and customer service.
The unique features that are at the heart of the new card make it the very best on the market for domestic and international travelers. No other card offers this combination of consumer-oriented features:
-- "Householding" -- Under the Chase/British Airways plan, up to
four people living in one household can maximize mileage credits
by combining the miles they earn into one account. Awards
can thus be redeemed more quickly. To help consolidate the
mileage-earnings power of purchases made with the credit card,
Chase will provide -- with no fee -- up to four additional credit
cards on the primary cardholder's account.
-- Immediate incentive to enroll -- $50 to $1,000 (depending on
flight class) will be credited to the Chase/British Airways VISA
account of those customers taking a round-trip British Airways
flight between now and mid-September of this year.
-- Domestic/international travel focus -- Customers can earn miles
on British Airways, USAir, USAir Express and Alaska Airlines.
They can redeem miles on British Airways, USAir, USAir Express,
Alaska Airlines and American Airlines(R), There are no blackout
periods for British Airways transatlantic flight awards.
-- Fast and generous mileage-earnings -- Just for signing up,
customers will receive a 4,000 mile bonus. For the first $1,000
charged to the Chase/British Airways VISA credit card, they will
earn an additional 1,000 mile bonus. And each year that 1993
Charter Members renew their accounts, they'll receive a 2,500
 mile bonus.
Additional benefits of the new Chase/British Airways VISA card include acceptance at more than 10 million locations, banking services at 360,000 VISA banking sites, the use of 120,000 ATMs, automatic common carrier and auto rental insurance and membership in British Airways Executive Club. Mileage can be redeemed for flight awards starting at just 20,000 miles.
 Target Marketing At Its Best
The new credit card is the result of a collaboration that focused on identifying the particular needs of travelers - business, vacation, domestic and international -- and using the combined Chase/British Airways strengths to meet those needs. It melds together Chase's consumer banking expertise and British Airways' reputation for providing superior service.
Thomas C. Lynch, executive vice president of Chase's credit card division, said, "Research and experience have taught us that one credit card can't be all things to all customers. By focusing on travelers and their special needs, we've been able to design the very best credit card product for them. In fact, this card is the first volley in a series dedicated to specific target markets, and we will examine and address the needs of those markets just as closely."
John Story, executive vice president, USA, of British Airways, said, "The new card delivers excellent benefits for customers of both companies. Chase and British Airways share many values, including business environments, objectives, customer targets and market strengths. All of these similarities make for a strong mutually beneficial strategic alliance."
He continued, "We are excited about strengthening our competitive position in the world and particularly in the U.S. marketplace where we have just invested over $400 million in an alliance with USAir. And, we want to continue to offer the best possible service available. Our relationship with Chase will help us to achieve these goals."
The new card is being marketed to likely business and leisure air travelers. A direct mail program for existing Chase card customers and British Airways Executive Club members has just begun. "Take One" applications will also be available at Chase branches and British Airways' airport and city locations, or by calling 1-800-AT-CHASE.
