THE LOEWEN GROUP NEARS RECORD FOR ANNUAL ACQUISITION GROWTH

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The Loewen Group Inc. (Toronto: LWN) is pleased to announce that its acquisition growth for 1993 is nearing its previous year of record acquisition growth in 1990, with over $210 million signed in acquisitions this year.
As of Nov. 30, 1993, the company had expended a total of $165.9 million on the purchase of 80 funeral homes, 30 cemeteries, and eight crematoria in 18 states and one province.
Heritage Funeral Service, a Tennessee-based firm with 13 funeral homes, has not closed as expected. Richard Tetrick, president of Heritage Funeral Service, has asked The Loewen Group to consider a restructuring of his affiliation with the company. The Loewen Group is reviewing all of its options regarding the contemplated affiliation with Heritage.
In addition to its completed acquisitions, the company is committed to the expenditure of $45 million on the purchase of 23 funeral homes, five cemeteries, and two crematoria, excluding Heritage Funeral Service.
The company expects to complete its current fiscal year with total acquisitions of approximately $190 million.
