 THE LOEWEN GROUP ANNOUNCES THIRD QUARTER FINANCIAL RESULTS
 VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Loewen Group Inc. (NASDAQ: LWNGF, Toronto: LWN) announced today that during the nine months which ended Sept. 30, 1992, revenue and earnings showed continued growth compared with the same period in 1991. Revenue increased 35.7 percent to $211.7 million from $156.0 million and earnings increased 43.1 percent to $17.6 million from $12.3 million. Earnings per share and fully diluted earnings per share both rose 32.5 percent to $0.53 per share from $0.40 per share.
 During the three months which ended Sept. 30, 1992, in comparison to the third quarter of 1991, revenue increased 37.7 percent to $71.9 million from $52.2 million and earnings increased 52.8 percent to $5.5 million from $3.6 million. Basic earnings per share and fully diluted earnings per share increased 45.5 percent to $0.16 per share from $0.11 per share for the same period in 1991.
 In early October of this year, Duff & Phelps upgraded to a rating of BBB the company's fixed rate notes of (U.S.) $175 million issued in October 1991. This upgrade will allow the company to continue to raise debt capital at attractive rates, and is a further reflection of the company's continued profitable growth and favorable prospects.
 During the first nine months of 1992, the company expended a total of $76.0 million on the purchase of 52 funeral homes, 14 cemeteries, and four crematoria in 17 states and two provinces. During the third quarter, the company expended $26.1 million on the purchase of 19 funeral homes, four cemeteries and one crematoria in 10 states and one province.
 Since the end of the third quarter, the company has expended or committed to the expenditure of $62.0 million on the purchase of 46 funeral homes, four cemeteries and two crematoria in 15 states. Committed expenditures are expected to close within the next two months.
 To date, the company owns and operates 432 funeral homes, 37 cemeteries, 17 crematoria, two ambulance services and three small insurance companies throughout Canada and the United States.
