THE LEARNING CHANNEL COMES TO SACRAMENTO CABLE OCTOBER 1
BETHESDA, Md., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The Learning Channel is coming to more than 200,000 Sacramento homes tomorrow to add a new dimension to the city's cable channel line-up.
The Learning Channel will launch at 8:00 a.m. on Sacramento Cable Channel 28 with "The Big Screen," an historical documentary that explores the inner workings of the motion picture industry.
The remainder of the day will include a diverse line-up of programs that stimulates the imagination of adults and young audiences and helps satisfy their curiosity about the world. In prime-time, viewers can explore the natural wonders of the world with "Science Frontiers" or search for the ancient city of Troy with "In Search of the Trojan War." Also highlighting TLC's prime-time programming this fall is "Beliefs," which explores the forces that inspire human values, philosophy and religion. Viewers will also get a taste of Irish culture in November with "J.P. Donleavy's Ireland."
Unprecedented for teachers on The Learning Channel is "Teacher TV," the critically-acclaimed series with the national education association that's by, for and about teachers. It airs Sunday afternoons at 3:00 p.m.
TLC has also taken a nationally syndicated comic-strip and turned it into a live-action series. It's called "Beakman's World," which is based on the popular comic-strip "You Can With Beakman" and answers everyday questions about science and nature.
Daytime on The Learning Channel allows viewers to expand their personal pursuits with insightful programming on antiques, home renovation and cooking.
But The Learning Channel will launch its biggest initiative ever this December with six hours of dedicated, commercial-free morning programming for pre-school children. It's called "Ready, Set, Learn!" This initiative was born out of the nation's number one educational goal, which is to prepare every child to learn before they enter the first grade.
"Ready, Set, Learn!" will initially feature six programs, including a ground-breaking series called "The Magic Box," which is created to teach pre-school children the concepts of reading by using the whole language method. Other programs will include "Book Mice," "Kitty Cats," "Join In!," "Iris -- The Happy Professor," and the popular "Zoobilee Zoo" featuring Ben Vereen.
The Learning Channel is the sister network of The Discovery Channel, the award-winning cable network that presents world-class documentaries that explore history, science and technology, nature and people and places.
Along with The Learning Channel, Sacramento Cable will also premiere Court TV on Channel 69, bringing our nation's court systems into our livingrooms, and the nostalgia network on Channel 29 to celebrate classic Hollywood productions.
