THE KIRBY COMPANY'S GENERATION 3 RECEIVES QUALITY AWARD
CLEVELAND, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The Kirby (AMEX: KEX) Generation 3 home care system has earned the Editor's Choice Award from Appliance Manufacturer magazine, a national trade publication.
The award program recognizes appliance makers for exceptional performance. Kirby and seven other award recipients were honored at a luncheon June 23 in Chicago. Other recipients included Xerox, Frigidaire, Motorola, Black & Decker, NCR, Carrier and Nordyne.
Kirby's Generation 3 was chosen for its modular design, which allows for automated quality testing, easy assembly and serviceability.
"Quality starts with the design," said John Lackner, Kirby's senior vice president of research and new product development. "This award proves that Kirby is a leader in quality in the industry."
Generation 3 is an upright, self-propelled household vacuum cleaning system, which includes a floor polisher kit, canister cleaner with hose, multipurpose turbo accessory kit, portable household sprayer, portable hand vacuum, and dry carpet shampoo system.
Introduced in 1990, Generation 3 has quickly gained acclaim from a variety of sources.
For example, a leading Canadian consumer information magazine gave the Generation 3 a rating of "excellent" for effectiveness, edge cleaning, ease of handling, quality of construction, and powerhead drive belt. Of 21 foreign and domestic models tested by the magazine, Generation 3 was the only one to earn an "excellent" overall rating.
In addition, Generation 3 is on display in the GE Plastics Living Environments Concept House in Pittsfield, Mass. The house showcases building methods, processes and products that will influence the household of the future.
According to Paul Durand, GE marketing program specialist for housewares, "The primary element we look for when choosing a partner is leadership or innovation in the marketplace. In the case of Kirby, it was a combination of both."
Jeffrey Radin, strategic accounts manager for GE, concurred. "We felt the Generation 3 represented one of the best products of its type," Radin said. "When people ask, 'What's the best cleaner out there?' they think of Kirby. Because it's state-of-the-art, it promotes an image we wish to represent."
The Kirby Company has been a leader in household vacuum cleaners, with a tradition of high quality, for 75 years. Its outstanding reputation has developed largely through the efforts of its direct selling organization now in 47 countries worldwide.
