THE KING SELLS PLATINUM

HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 25 ~PRNewswire~ -- Proving the enormous staying power of the Presley legend, RCA Records announced today that "Elvis: The King of Rock 'N' Roll -- The Complete 50s Masters," a five-CD box set released June 23 of this year, had passed platinum sales status in the United States and gold in the rest of the world. This is Elvis Presley's 111th RIAA gold and platinum certification. Coming 15 years after Presley's death, this feat is all the more extraordinary.
As America braces for the Elvis stamp to be issued by the U.S. Postal Service (young image) on Presley's birthday, Jan. 8, RCA announced the company is continuing its Presley restoration releases, focusing the next reissues on Presley's movie career. RCA has restored eight motion picture soundtracks of the King and will release two soundtracks on each CD picture disc. In 1993, the company's restoration will focus on a box set of the 60s decade, tentatively titled "The King of Rock 'N' Roll -- The 60s Sessions." Presley will also debut on the QVC TV Network in the New York area with the soundtracks sold together in a classic film can.
Comments Don Wardell, project coordinator for RCA: "The staying power and appeal of Presley is amazing -- he can outsell living artists, and RCA is dedicated to restoring all of the Elvis Presley legacy and releasing it in quality packages by December of 1995."
