THE HYPE MARRIAGE WIDE SHUT IF TOM AND NICOLE WENT ON THEIR OWN 'TEMPTATION ISLAND,' WOULD THEY DO A BAD, BAD THING?

Just in time for Valentine's Day, another celebrity split - Tom and Nicole. This on the heels of the Alec and Kim breakup and Meg leaving Dennis while making ``Proof of Life,'' supposedly for co-star Russell. (And now both Russell and Meg have supposedly moved on.)

Breakups are hardly news in Hollywood. Think back to the '50s and '60s (actually you can go back further, but why bother?). There was Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. Then there was Eddie Fisher and Liz Taylor. Then there was Liz Taylor and Richard Burton. Then there was Liz Taylor and whomever. Then there was Liz Taylor and Richard Burton II, etc., etc.

And, of course, in 1966, the man who sang ``Fairy tales can come true/It can happen to you/If you're young at heart,'' Frank Sinatra, found his youth by marrying Mia Farrow, some 30 years his junior. And Mia later went on to marry composer Andre Previn and then hook up with Woody Allen (we won't go into that).

Nowadays musical partnerships are just as prevalent. The trouble is that we just have to wait for the items in the gossip columns. Now Tom and Nicole cited ``the difficulties inherent in divergent careers which constantly keep them apart.''

But there may be a solution in the works - an actors strike. Yes, with members of the Screen Actors Guild possibly walking out, Tom and Nicole can spend time together, and if they are, why not spend it on ``Celebrity Temptation Island''?

Our power couple can luxuriate on a warm, tropical island (not to mention running in skimpy outfits) while out-of-work starlets and hunks attempt to lure them into marital indiscretions, all for the pleasure of a weekly viewing audience. Imagine the ratings and notice how we cleverly avoid any SAG sanctions because, after all, they're only being themselves and not acting. Now all we need are two more takers. And remember, CBS and Fox, we thought of this first.
