THE HOME DEPOT PROMOTES THOMAS SMITHTO VICE PRESIDENT OPERATIONS, WEST COAST

 FULLERTON, Calif., July 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The Home Depot (NYSE: HD), America's largest home improvement retailer, today announced the promotion of Thomas "Buz" Smith, 34, to vice president of Operations for the West Coast.
 Smith was previously the district manager for the Northern Bay area of California and Washington.
 "Buz has the leadership and employee motivational qualities which will ensure he does an outstanding job," said Bill Hamlin, president West Coast Division, The Home Depot.
 Smith has been with the company nine years and began his career as a sales associate in the Thomas Road store in Phoenix. He first became a store manager at The Home Depot in Colma, Calif., and also was the store manager for Oceanside, Calif. Smith was the West Coast merchandiser for Hardware prior to becoming district manager.
 A native of Waukesha, Wis., Smith lives in Palo Alto, Calif.
 Atlanta-based Home Depot currently operates 227 full-service, warehouse-style stores in 21 states primarily serving do-it-yourselfers and home improvement, construction and building maintenance professionals.
