 THE HOME DEPOT APPOINTS NEW OFFICER; ALAN BARNABY PROMOTED
 TO VICE PRESIDENT, STORE SYSTEMS AND OPERATIONS SUPPORT
 ATLANTA, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The Home Depot, Inc. (NYSE: HD), the nation's largest home center retailer, announced today the appointment of Alan Barnaby to the new position of vice president for Store Systems and Operations Support.
 Barnaby was previously director of Store Systems and Labor Management -- responsible for developing and implementing store systems. In his new capacity, Barnaby will report directly to Arthur M. Blank, president and chief operating officer. Barnaby will continue to work with division vice presidents for Operations; Andy McKenna, senior vice president of Information Services; and Ron Brill, chief financial officer, for store systems and operations support throughout the company.
 Barnaby, 41, began his career with The Home Depot in 1983 as an assistant manager in Florida. He became a store manager in Hialeah, Fla., in 1984. In 1985 he was promoted to the regional manager for South Florida. He transferred to Atlanta in 1988 as a regional manager, and in 1990 he became director of Store Systems. In February 1992, he took on the additional duties of Labor Management.
 Barnaby is active in Home Depot's philanthropic efforts including the City of Hope and Habitat for Humanity.
