THE HOME DEPOT, INC. DECLARES FOUR-FOR-THREE STOCK SPLIT AND QUARTERLY CASH DIVIDEND OF THREE CENTS PER SHARE

ATLANTA, Feb. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Home Depot, Inc. (NYSE: HD), America's largest home center retailer, today announced that its board of directors has authorized a stock split of four shares of its outstanding $.05 par value common stock for each three shares outstanding.
To effect the stock split, the board of directors declared a stock dividend of one share of common stock for each three shares of common stock payable April 14, to stockholders of record on March 24.
In lieu of issuing fractional shares in connection with the stock split, the company has elected to provide for a cash payment based on the closing price of the common stock on March 24.
The stock split announced today will be The Home Depot's 10th stock split since the company went public in 1981. All 10 splits have been effected in the form of stock dividends. When the latest split becomes effective, one original share of Home Depot stock issued in 1981 will represent approximately 76 shares of stock. Adjusting for splits effected to date, one original share at $12 of Home Depot stock issued in 1981 is worth $3,391.50, based on yesterday's closing price.
In addition, the company said its board of directors had declared a quarterly cash dividend of $.03 per pre-split common share, payable March 24 to stockholders of record on March 10.
Atlanta-based Home Depot currently operates 216 home improvement stores in 19 states. The stores stock approximately 30,000 different kinds of building materials, home improvement products and lawn and garden supplies which are sold primarily to do-it-yourselfers but also to home improvement, construction and building maintenance professionals.
