THEY SAY there's a kind of music every mood, every occasion and for every sort of weather under the sun. And as 28 bands come together for the third edition of The Gig Week, electronica, metal or folk fusion, there's something for every music buff.

There were hardly any gigs happening in Delhi about two years ago and the independent music scene looked really bleak," says co- founder of the fest Jubin Jacob, " There are some brilliant bands who haven't had the

chance to showcase their music yet, so we wanted to build a platform where bands would have the chance to interact with their audience and the other way around too." While the headliners for festival include bands such as the electro- rock ensemble Pentagram and the funky alternative/ electronic duo Sh'ir + Func, The Gig Fest has become bigger and better as it spreads itself across six venues over seven days.

What makes the music festival an irresistible tease is the variety of acts -- you have the likes of the five- piece hardcore metal band Goddess Gagged ( who opened for Guns• Roses last December) playing in blueFROG this Sunday, while popular singer- songwriter Nikhil D'Souza does his thing on Thursday at Lodi -- The Garden Restaurant.

" Fests such as these are great ways to showcase a functional and independent music scene," says D'Souza, who's all set to play some promising new material. " This is the perfect way to get people outside of your friend circle to check out your music," concurs Avneet Khurmi from the duo of auditors which calls itself Two's A Crowd. While Khurmi's fivemonth- old band will be playing both original music and covers at Rsta on Wednesday, for fresh and soothing originals, stop by Out of The Box Cafe to check out the Prateek Kuhad Collective. Numbers like Kuhad's unhurried and light- on- theears Rt Rzi and Yeh Pal, now that's some poetic folk music that'll make you hum long after The Gig Week takes a bow.

The Gig Week kicks off on Sept 21 ( Sat), at OTB in Hauz Khas Village; 8 pm onwards. Visit Thegigweek. com for more details.

THE THEY for and under come edition metal something " happening years music says Jacob, bands Shai'r + Func will perform at the Gig Week.
