THE FUTURE NOW NAMED PREMIER NATIONAL RESELLER FOR IBM'S CD SHOWCASE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

CINCINNATI, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Future Now, Inc. (NASDAQ: FNOW), the Cincinnati-based computer sales and services company that focuses on total solutions for its clients, announced today it will offer IBM's new CD Showcase software distribution system to its customers in 17 states. IBM has named Future Now as one of the program's Premier National Resellers.
With CD Showcase, developed by IBM Software Manufacturing Company, users can test, purchase and install software without leaving their business-based PCs. Consumers obtain a CD Showcase disc from Future Now, insert it into their CD-ROM drive, then test up to 100 different software programs. To purchase a product, users dial a toll-free number and receive a code that unlocks and instantly releases the desired software and its documentation for use on their computer.
"The CD Showcase system is a significant technological advance that dramatically facilitates software purchases for our customers," said Future Now Chairman and CEO Terry Theye. "CD ROM technology is a cost- efficient method of electronic software distribution, and we anticipate the IBM program will boost our software sales."
To date, software publishers participating in the CD Showcase system are Borland, Delrina, the IBM Corporation, Knowledgeware, Lotus Development Corporation and Visual Software. Discussions are also being held with WordPerfect Corporation and Microsoft.
A single CD can store the equivalent of more than 460 high-density floppy discs. A typical CD Showcase disc lists multiple software titles, each of which might contain product information, a demo and installable product code. The user is permitted unlimited access to the product information and demo, but access to the software program itself is controlled by encrypting so that it is unreadable until decoded by an electronic "key." The technology also provides security measures for license compliance for standalone or LAN customers. The first CD Showcase discs are expected to be available early in the fourth quarter of this year.
The Future Now, Inc. sells, configures, installs and services microcomputers, UNIX workstations, turn-key local and wide area networks, computer software and peripheral products for business, professional, educational and governmental customers. The company also offers a wide range of customer support and consulting services through its 27 sales offices in 17 states.
