A YOUNG cartoonist has a promising career ahead after receiving praise from the Star Wars creator.

Connor Hagan, 10, from Mahgull, was over the moon when a letter from George Lucas dropped through his letter box, nearly a year after he had written to him.

The youngster had sent the Hollywood director some of his artwork, including some drawings and ideas for new spacecrafts.

Connor, who is a pupil of Holy Rosary Primary school in Aintree, said: "George Lucas is my hero and I wrote to him about a year ago. He wrote back and sent me some posters on the latest project he is working on.

"He praised my drawings and said I am a gifted artist and not to give up on my dream "He ended the letter with 'and may the force be with you'.

"I was so pleased to get the letter after all that time from his Skywalker Ranch in California, I didn't think he was going to reply."

The youngster is doing all he can to follow his dream in animation and film. His latest venture was to attend an art workshop with a Disney artist. He also entered a competition to design a rollercoaster with Barclaycard and won a year's family pass in to attractions throughout the UK. He also won a Caribbean Leopard Shark which is kept at The Blue Planet Aquarium, through a competition with them.

Connor added: "I like to draw cowboys and combat themes, I draw all the time.

"I named my shark 'Otis', he sends me birthday and Christmas cards.

"I wrote to Disneyland Paris to ask if I could attend one of their workshops with a Disney artist.

"It was great, it was a two-hour session and I learnt so much.

"He said that is was very competitive to become a cartoonist. But that's my dream, I would love to work for George Lucas and Disney."

Proud mum, Moe, said: "Connor has wanted to be a cartoonist since he was five-years-old.

"He was ecstatic when he received the letter from George Lucas."
