THE ENERGY WATCHDOG, PROGRAMMED TO RECOVER
WASTED ENERGY USED IN HEATING OR AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEMS,
NOW AVAILABLE IN OHIO AND OTHER NORTH CENTRAL MARKETS
CLEVELAND, Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Does a furnace have to run

continuously to heat a room, particularly in a large commercial building? Not if it's equipped with a new product slightly smaller than a box of cereal.
The product is the Energy WatchDog, an electronic, state-of-the-art computerized energy-recovery system. It can be programmed to recover wasted energy in existing heating systems without sacrificing comfort. It will also provide similar benefits to cooling systems during summer.
The Energy WatchDog is easily rewired to a furnace or air- conditioning unit. As it operates, it reduces the amount of energy used to heat or cool large commercial systems. As a result, property owners or managers realize a savings on their utility bills. As important, Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. has studied this technology and given it a favorable review.
Specifically, almost all furnaces have been "sized" by their manufacturers for the 10 coldest days; however, when the weather is less severe, a furnace, because of the particular sizing, will still function to its peak capacity.
Once installed to a unit, the Energy WatchDog will periodically turn off the unit's gas or oil valve, while continuing to run its fan. It can do this because an authorized HVAC (heating, ventilating and air- conditioning) dealer, during installation, will have set temperatures to within .1 degree and matched to the performance of the heating system.
Even though the gas or oil valve has closed, the unit's fan will continue to operate, and air will circulate over the furnace's heat exchanger and warm a room. Only when the thermostat calls for heat again does the exchanger re-ignite. It is at this point where the system consumes the most energy.
"Our customers now have an electronically programmed means of recovering wasted energy in their commercial heating systems," said Tom Siewiorek, president of Chagrin Falls, Ohio-based, Environic Marketing Group, Inc., exclusive distributor of the Energy WatchDog in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia.
"Over the course of the cold-weather months, their systems will use far less energy without sacrificing heating comfort. They should realize at least a 20 percent energy reduction and a return-on- investment in less than 24 months."
For an air-conditioning unit, "sized" for the 10 warmest days of a year, the Energy WatchDog periodically turns off the cooling system's compressor before it reaches a saturation temperature. Its fan, meanwhile, continues to blow air over refrigeration coils to keep a room comfortable. Only when the coil warms does the compressor kick on again, repeating the cycle until the thermostat is satisfied.
The Energy WatchDog is manufactured by MB Technology of Santa Ana, Calif.
