THE DRESS BARN, INC. REPORTS MONTHLY AND QUARTERLY SALES RESULTS

 STAMFORD, Conn., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Dress Barn, Inc. (NASDAQ: DBRN) today reported sales of $35.0 million for the five week period ended July 31, 1993, an increase of 43 percent over sales of $24.5 million for the four week period last year. On a four week comparable basis the company's total sales increased 14 percent and same store sales decreased 1 percent.
 For the 14 week quarter ended July 31, 1993, sales were $120.8 million, representing an increase of 19 percent over sales of $101.1 million for the 13 week period in 1992. On a 13 week basis, the company's same store were flat versus last year.
 At July 31, 1993, the company operated 641 stores, a net addition of 77 or a 14 percent increase from the 564 in operation last year.
 The Dress Barn, Inc., operates a chain of women's off-price apparel stores, offering in-season, moderate to better quality fashion apparel, primarily with nationally recognized brand names, at substantial discounts from department stores prices.
