THE DISNEY CHANNEL OFFERS FREE HOLIDAY PREVIEW TO CABLE SUBSCRIBERS; JANE SEYMOUR TO HOST DISNEY CHANNEL HOLIDAY PREVIEW, NOV. 29 - DEC. 6
BURBANK, Calif., Nov. 20 ~PRNewswire~ -- The Disney Channel will be offered free to cable subscribers from Sunday, Nov. 29 through Sunday, Dec. 6 in participating cable systems. Jane Seymour will host the eight-day preview.
Programming highlights will include the live telecast of 1992's "The Walt Disney Company Presents The American Teacher Awards" on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. (ET~PT), "The Mickey Mouse Club's 200th Episode Special" starring Jesse Jackson on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. (ET~PT), and two new episodes of The Disney Channel series, "Avonlea." In addition, there will be an "Eight Days a Week" Beatles Festival, and a presentation of "The Rocketeer" on Nov. 29 at 4 p.m. (ET~PT).
Viewers who call to subscribe to The Disney Channel during the holiday preview will receive a coupon for a free 1993 "Beauty and the Beast" calendar along with a coupon book good for savings of up to $25 toward the purchase of Disney character toys from Mattel. This offer is good for new subscriber households installed between Nov. 29 and Dec. 31, 1992. The holiday preview offers cable viewers the opportunity to sample the quality programming that The Disney Channel provides for the entire family. Now in its third year, "The Walt Disney Company Presents The American Teacher Awards" premieres on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. (ET~PT), honoring American teachers with a star-studded gala event. Also premiering, "The Mickey Mouse Club's 200th Episode Special" guest stars Jesse Jackson and takes on the issue of race relations on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. (ET~PT) and "Adventures in Wonderland's" "Christmas in Wonderland" has a special primetime slot on Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. (ET~PT). Also for the family, The Disney Channel's popular series "Avonlea" premieres two new episodes. "Old Friends, Old Wounds," which takes a touching look at the turmoil surrounding the sudden death of Marilla Cuthbert (Colleen Dewhurst), a strong character in the "Avonlea" series since its inception, airs on Nov. 29 at 6 p.m. (ET~PT). The second episode, "The Calamitous Courting of Hetty King," features guest star Ned Beatty as Wally Higgins, a traveling salesman who courts Aunt Hetty. "The Calamitous Courting of Hetty King" premieres on Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. (ET~PT). For adult viewers, the holiday preview features an "Eight Days a Week" Beatles Festival line-up showcasing a Beatles program every night. Included will be "A Tribute to John Lennon," "John & Yoko's Imagine," "Help," "Magical Mystery Tour," "Paul McCartney: Going Home," "The Making of Sgt. Pepper," "Paul McCartney: Get Back," and "A Hard Day's Night," all of which air at 10 p.m. (ET~PT) during the preview. "Paul McCartney: Get Back" will be stereo simulcast on Dec. 5 on more than 100 Westwood One classic rock~ARO radio stations throughout the country. Viewers will also have the opportunity to share in the fun and excitement of the "Eight Days a Week" Beatles Sweepstakes which includes two grand prize trips to London and a tour of Abbey Road Studios, as well as many other Beatles-themed prizes. "Aladdin" fans can watch "The Making of Aladdin" at 7:30 p.m. (ET~PT) on Dec. 5 and participate in the "Aladdin Flying Carpet Ride" Sweepstakes. The sweepstakes includes five grand prize family vacation packages to The Walt Disney World Resort and thousands of other "Aladdin"-themed prizes. Viewers will also enjoy special encore presentations of "Disney's Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra" on Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. and Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. (ET~PT), along with "The Wolves of Willoughby Chase" on Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. (ET~PT).
