THE DISNEY CHANNEL AIRS 10TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL; PROGRAM AIRS MAY 13, AT 8 P.M. ET/PT

LOS ANGELES, May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The Disney Channel will air a special program on Thursday, May 13, at 8 p.m. ET/PT in commemoration of its 10th anniversary. The special chronicles The Disney Channel's 14-city road show of live performances and celebrations designed both to inspire children to read and to showcase the channel's book-based programming for the entire family.
"The Disney Channel's Tenth Anniversary Celebration ... the Coast-to-Coast Library Tour" features footage of an original production that was performed at libraries across the country as part of The Disney Channel's Tenth Anniversary Tour that took place from April 18 through April 30, 1993. In the road show's production, characters from The Disney Channel series "Adventures in Wonderland," Alice, the Mad Hatter and the March Hare, discover a treasure chest full of books. The show also features Belle from "Beauty and the Beast" and members of the "Mickey Mouse Club."
Thursday's special program is a tribute to nationwide efforts to promote literacy and reading. The program also features interviews with Disney Channel President John F. Cooke; James Billington, the Librarian of Congress; and Peggy Sullivan, executive director of the American Library Association.
The special includes footage from the Tenth Anniversary Tour's stops in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Albuquerque, N.M., Dallas, New Orleans, Memphis, Tenn., St. Louis, Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus, Ohio, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and New York.
