THE COOPER COMPANIES ELECTS PRESS TO ITS BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 NEW YORK, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cooper Companies, Inc. (NYSE: COO) yesterday elected Donald Press to its board of directors. Mr. Press was nominated for election by Cooper Life Sciences, Inc. (CLS), the holder of approximately 16.2 percent of the company's outstanding common stock and all of its Series B preferred stock, pursuant to an agreement with the company entered into in June 1993 allowing CLS to designated up to two directors to the company's current board. Such agreement also provided for CLS to designate three of the eight candidates who will stand for election to the board of directors by the stockholders at the company's 1993 annual meeting of stockholders, of which Mr. Press is one.
 Mr. Press has served since 1981 as executive vice president of Broadway Management Co., Inc., which owns and manages commercial office buildings. Mr. Press is also an attorney in the firm of Donald Press, P.C.
 The principal subsidiaries of The Cooper Companies, Inc. are CooperVision, Inc., CooperVision Pharmaceuticals, Inc., CooperSurgical, Inc. and Hospital Group of America, Inc.
