THE COOPER COMPANIES ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION OF ARTHUR C. BASS AS ACTING CHAIRMAN

 FORT LEE, N.J., April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cooper Companies, Inc. (NYSE: COO) today announced that at a meeting of its board of directors today Arthur C. Bass resigned as acting chairman and Allan E. Rubenstein, M.D. was elected in his stead. Mr. Bass will take a medical leave of absence from the company, but remains as a member of the board.
 Dr. Rubenstein, 48, is the founder and president of MTC Imaging Services, Inc., a national medical imaging company providing MRI and CAT Scan equipment to hospitals and clinics. He first joined the Cooper board in July 1992 and has been serving as chairman of the management committee of the board since October 1992. Dr. Rubenstein has been on the faculty of the department of neurology at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City since 1974, and currently is associate professor and director of the Mt. Sinai Neurofibormatosis Research and Treatment Center. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and by the American Society for Neuroimaging.
