Wallace Fowler Jr.'s Colonnade hosted its first special event March 24 following a $1.75 million renovation. General manager Blake Meador said the business should host 70-80 events this year on revenue of $175,000-$200,000.

The building also houses the corporate offices of the Junior Fowler Investment Group, which includes Subway Restaurants and Elite Security as well as the Colonnade.

Meador said the Colonnade has a 5,000-SF ballroom replete with a floating hardwood floor, custom-made alabaster and bronze chandeliers and decorative columns, making it perfect for wedding receptions, proms and other social events. The ballroom rents for a minimum of $1,000 for four hours per booking.

Adjacent to the ballroom is a 1,200-SF catering preparation and service area. The Colonnade offers a host of consulting services to help plan catering, flowers and music. Newlyweds have complimentary use of a 1958 White Rolls Royce Silver Wraith limousine for wedding receptions.

With two 400-SF board rooms, the Colonnade can accommodate anything from small social gatherings to business meetings and seminars. The board rooms start at a minimum of $100 for two hours. A divider can be removed to combine the board rooms into a single large space.

With six full-time employees who split duties with other businesses in the building, Meador said the Colonnade can rent out space, linens, fine china and all the equipment needed for any event. Linens, china and serving equipment are available for rental at prices that Meador said were below current sources for equipment in the Jonesboro area. In addition, the Colonnade has audio-visual equipment for business meetings and seminars, and the board rooms are equipped with wireless Internet access.

"One year from now we will probably need 12 full-time employees," Meador said. "In the second year we can probably double our revenue to $350,000-$400,000 by hosting 200 or more events."

Meador said there isn't a similar venue in Jonesboro to serve business or social needs.

"There is Arkansas State University and some smaller spaces at the country clubs, but they're private, and the university doesn't offer complete privacy," Meador said. "There is also space at the Holiday Inn Holidome, but that's not as private either."
